For many Catholic young people, 2019 is special, marked by WYD in Panama at beginning of the year.
Among many activities during WYD, JescomAP contributed a film festival screening, called Ignatius Film Festival. Three Jesuits of JCAP presented as organizers of the Film Festival: Fr. Tsai (Hong Kong), Fr. Nono (Philippines), Fr. Yen (Vietnam).
Ignatius Film Festival is an occasion for young film makers expressing their talent on short films (less than 20 mins length), and screens on theater as a Jesuit contribution for WYD's activities. The first Ignatius Film Festival was screened in 2005 during WYD in Germany, initiated by Fr. Fr. Christof Wolf, S.J., of Loyola Production.
For this WYD, there are 45 films sent to the Film Festival for competition. On the screening day, in the theater Teatro Municipal Gladys Vidal, Fr. Tsai announced the winners and gave award statues to the representatives of winning films.
The first winner is film Repeat After Me of director Yu Shibuya from Japan
The second is Deux Mains of director Michaël Barocas from France
The third is Conversación of director Cristian García from Peru.
A young representative girl of the third winner talked: young people want to contribute to build the Church and film is a creative way for evangelization. She love to evangelize in her capacity of this way.
Panamanian families showed their generosity in hosting pilgrimages. The three Jesuits was hosted in two families. They treated them as members of the family, offered accommodation, food and even picking-up from many distant places… All is free.
WYD 2019 in Panama ended with a lot of emotions. Every young people returns home with the invitation of the Pope: “speak out and realize the dream that the Lord has dreamed for you”.
